This was based on a coursebook exercise. The exercise was a major
task at the end of a lesson.
The provided information consisted of descriptions of four vacation
packages. Five holidaymaker groups were briefly described (family,
age, interests) and should be matched to the packages. Thereafter
students could discuss their wishes and fill out a table with details.
Person or Group |
Package |
a family with young children |
Jamaica, sporting |
a retired couple |
Zell am See, wandering |
a single professional |
Paris, city |
a group of teenagers |
Orlando, Disneyworld |
a sporting club |
Ibiza, beach resort |
We propose several improvements to the task - see following the table
of details.

Improvements
-
The package information was minimal and old-fashioned (limitations of the
book). It would be better to get current brochures from a travel
bureau.
-
The table to be filled out gave little room for thinking, since questions
were already defined. Students could gain much more by figuring out
for themselves what they needed to decide. Brainstorming to produce
a mind-map is an ideal method for doing this.
-
A report based on the table will make a boring presentation. We decided
that each group should try to sell their holiday package to the class.
